What You Should Know About Fires and Getting Homeowners Insurance

According to the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA), about 357,000 home fires occurred per year between 2009 and 2013. These catastrophes amounted to about $6.9 billion dollars in direct damage, while injuring almost 13,000 civilians.

Clearly, you’ve worked too hard for your home just to see it go up in smoke. Of course, there are certain measures you can take to prevent such tragedy. For instance, you can pay closer attention to your stovetop while cooking or provide regular maintenance to your heater.

Still, the prevention of fire isn’t always under your control. What if embers from a nearby forest fire set your house ablaze? Or, what if your neighbor’s home fire spreads to your home?

In these situations, your best line of protection is home insurance. Most homeowners insurance will cover damages incurred by your home as well as to your properties.
